About this Course

An innovation methodology for when profitability and positive cashflow are essential.

This course guides venture professionals in applying a new innovation methodology called Integrated Venture Engineering (IVE) to profitably solving big societal challenges and bringing new, sustainable technologies into the world.

Over the past decade, the startup community embraced venture capital’s approach of getting quickly into market with a minimum viable product, acquiring customers, and then trying to sort out a sustainable business model while running the company.

What wasn’t understood is that venture capital funds turn a profit even though the majority of their portfolio companies fail completely, and the remaining successes are typically fast-growing, but very unprofitable at exit, even after 10 years of trying.

Companies, self-funded entrepreneurs, and impact investors aiming to catalyze sustainable, profitable new markets have to take a very different approach—one that significant raises the chance of success, and priorities profits and positive cash flow. Integrated Venture Engineering was built for this purpose.

What to Expect from this Course

We’ve spent the past 20 years working with venture teams: from renewable power ventures in Scandinavia to edtech in China.

Throughout this course we’ll share what we have learned.

  • Understand why today’s widely-adopted lean innovation approach is effective when improving products that are already being profitably sold, but is ineffective and cash-hungry when used to innovate new ventures and business models
  • Gain valuable insights about 13 fundamental challenges that dictate a startup venture’s commercial potential
  • Learn how to model and simulate a venture’s at-scale profitability, and isolate key profit drivers

You will soon see that no concept is more critical to understanding IVE than that of the “core business archetype,” or CBA.

  • There’s nothing like it in management science today and creating the right one can make a founder’s life easy or very hard.”
  • This course will teach you everything you need to know about core business archetypes
  • You will then have the opportunity to apply this new concept to your venture as we will walk you through the required steps to build a robust essential CBA, covering the initial 6 challenges (i.e. Stage I of IVE).
  • This last part will be done in conjunction with the use of a workbook available here.
